Grool- The combination of the words “Great” and “Cool”

I would definitely have to say that Mrs. Boring’s fourth grade class I got help out on Thursday was great and cool! I finally got to interact with kids that were not under seven years old and I really enjoyed the experience! While I was there they were working on math, and I liked that the math was more than counting by ones and tens. They were learning how to find missing angles with a 180 degree line. I felt like I was able to help the kids more when they were stuck on problems and use more of my own math skills to teach them tricks, unlike first graders where you have to keep everything in simple terms. However, unlike first graders, their teacher is not as much the center of their world. They aren’t showing their teacher all the work they did for compliments and their definitely aren’t hugs because for fourth graders that is not cool. Overall, I would definitely spend another day with them if I could!

So, now that I’ve seen kindergarten, first grade, and fourth grade. I would have to say I still love first grade the most, fourth grade is a close second, and kindergarten is last.

For the rest of the week in Mrs. Zawisza’s class, the kids finished their unit on measurement using used unifix cubes, dominoes, and rainbow tiles and took a post test on Friday. However, on Tuesday I got the pleasure to sit out in the hall with Mrs. Zawisza and watch/help her test one student at a time for the new testing first graders must go through this year. It took about 30 to 45 minutes for each student and the testing I got to see was for math. I believe there is a reading one as well. The test went over everything the kids have learned in math since the beginning of the year and was actually very tricky at times. Mrs. Zawisza and another first grade teacher talked about how they didn’t like how the test was trying to trick the kids on some questions and how some of the questions didn’t make sense. For example one question had a 3 second time limit which is unreasonable for a first grader. I hated not being able to help the students a little more when they were stuck and I know Mrs. Zawisza felt the same way.

Altogether, another educational week for me with new learning experiences!
