Something Exciting!

J.W. Reason received such an amazing opportunity on Friday that was so exciting for the kids, and just as much for the adults! We got to be the first school that an Ohio State University dance troupe performed for! They had never performed for an elementary school before and I think our school set the bar very high for the next schools they dance for! Overall, all the OSU students that came danced fantastically and I’m so glad I got to see an up-close live performance, which is something I’ve never had the pleasure to see before! All the kids were just as much in awe of them as I was! The movements and shapes their bodies can make are beautiful, and I will probably be haring many “I wanna be a dancer!” in school for the next few weeks!

Explore through my gallery for more pictures of the dancers!

Furthermore, in math this week the students focused on how to slice circles and rectangles into equal parts! In this case, our circles were pizzas or cookies and the rectangles were brownies which made everyone really hungry over the week! They are mainly dividing their “food” into quarters, fourths, and halves but some students like to take challenges and divide by eights!

Then, in social studies the children have continued to learn about other countries such as Japan, China, Germany, and France by reading non-fiction books and filling out a chart to put in their Travel Suitcases!

On Thursday, I personally worked with a student who had been absent a few times over the week and got her all caught up with the other students, as well as giving her a few test she had missed! Mrs. Zawisza explained how much help I could give her if she was confused and overall it went great! I could really tell that day that Mrs. Zawisza would have had her work cut out for her if I had not been there to work with the student one on one!

If I had an awkward moment this week it would be that on our way to the gym to get ready to see the dancers, one little girl wouldn’t let go of my hand even as I was kind of pulling away and nicely trying to say I had to sit with the teachers (she wanted me to sit with her) but she was not letting go at all! I kept trying to pull out of her grip but then she would tighten her hand more! She finally let go as we got into the gym but she was hanging on to my hand by the fingertips for a moment (as I was still walking).

My video of the week is about social media! Check it out!
